Astaxanthin s one of more than six hundred-pluscarotenoids. It is a polyunsaturated compound, appearing pink in colour. It occurs in algae, marine chanterelle and fish, and performs specific functions in aquatic animals. Astaxanthin is unable be synthesized in aquatic animals such as shrimp, crab, salmon and ornamental fish, and has to be obtained from food chain. Numerous experiments show that astaxanthin added in aqua feed provides required nutrients for growth and survival of juvenile animals, noticeable improves the colour of their skin and flesh, and meets the demand of consumers. Astaxanthin is proven safe for human being. It has strong antioxidation and anticarcinogen properties, and boost immune system.
